The Stuart Ranch Colonel Sleeper Sofa was designed to embody the timeless durability of its namesake, Colonel Robert Terry Stuart. The ranch, originally founded by Robert Clay Freeny in 1868, was passed down to his granddaughter Carrie Ida Freeny, who married Stuart in 1931. Born to a cattle rancher and a member of a prominent Texas family, Colonel Stuart pursued a variety of occupations before finding success in the insurance industry. Despite his initial ambitions to study law, Colonel Stuart became president of his own insurance company at the young age of 28. He later purchased and relocated Mid-Continent Life Insurance Company before settling on the family homestead and starting a family with Ida. After his passing in 2001, their son Bob Stuart carried on the legacy of the ranch.
